![]() There are far more animals than I have attached photos for.Located in the greater San Antonio area, Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch (NBWR) is an “African Safari, Texas-Style.” The Ranch is a Texas Land Heritage Property, recognized and certified by the State of Texas for being used for agriculture by the same family for over 100 years. If you want to be a little more adventuresome, I’d take a couple of bags of carrots and/or some apples and keep your hand on the windows control. Bottom line is that if you just crack your windows and toss some pellets out, you will still have some great pictures. My wife was watching me one time and had a zebra’s head almost entirely inside. I kept mine about half way with one hand on the window control and one on the camera. Definitely don’t leave your windows all the way down. The exceptions were the zebras, ostriches, deer and emu which all acted like they wanted to go home with you. There weren’t many other cars that day but we noticed that not as many animals approached the vehicle on the second and third tours. We made three complete tours … they are unlimited. When the buffalo began scratching his head on the car mirror, the HUGE longhorn cow started banging his horns on the roof, several zebras doing their best to get their heads inside while biting the top of the window, a ram head-butting the car and the ostrich pecking on the window, I was glad I paid for the extra rental insurance (no actual damage though). You can see from the photos how close they were … these are not telephoto shots. The animals would literally come as far inside the car as you would let them. From the reaction of the animals, there must be a lot of hand feeding going on. They give you a small bag of food pellets when you enter and instruct you to toss it on the ground … not to feed from your hand. We thought we would see “some” wildlife but instead, we saw a “lot” of wildlife … and not at a distance. We had to rent a car to get there but it was worth every penny. We flew to San Antonio and this was the only attraction we could not reach by foot or public transportation. ![]() The gift shop was very nice and the staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. There was a spot about half way through where you could stop to use the restroom as well as grab some food which allowed you to take your time and not rush through. This is one I would definitely recommend as I had feeding Zebra's on my bucket list. ![]() You got to ride through in your own vehicle and take your time by pulling to the side so others could pass. As we drove through the park, it was nice to see that the layout was open and they animals seemed content and relaxed, unlike the cramped style of a normal zoo. They were not shy and allowed you to feed them. Right when entering, your immediately greeted by goats and they would come right up to the car. I insisted that we get the program as well and was glad I did as we were able to read up on the animals we came across on the way. What is there not to love about this one?! So we purchased two bags of food when we entered the park and that was enough to get the two of us through the course of the zoo. ![]()
